If you are acting as an independent contractor, this is even more important because chances are you are operating as a sole proprietor and therefore your personal belongings are at risk in a legal dispute.

Insurance is available for all trades, including roofers, electricians, mechanical contractors, HVAC professionals, plumbers and other contractors. When you enter someone else’s premises or property, you can be held liable for any damage that occurs. This can be accidental damage, damage due to faulty equipment or damage due to negligence.

Carrying contractors insurance is a good way to obtain work. Many individuals and businesses will refuse to hire a contractor who does not carry their own insurance. Use your insurance coverage as a selling point when seeking new business. Accidents happen even under the best of circumstances. To work without adequate insurance is just asking for troublesome lawsuits. The cost is very reasonable and would be tax deductible as a business expense.

Visit www.rhhinsurance.com today to receive details regarding contractors insurance that you need. Their insurance professionals can explain what coverage you should have and why you need it. They will look at your particular area of expertise and have the experience to pinpoint the coverage you should have immediately. Most business professionals required that subcontractors and contractors carry their own business liabilty insurance.

In the course of doing business, contractors such as plumbers and roofers take on several risks of a financial nature as well as being subject to personal injury lawsuits. To lessen this risk, independent contractors may opt to purchase a policy that will cover their costs in the event of being sued for property damage or bodily injury.

Independent contractors provide their services in many of the construction trades, from electrical repair to road construction. Business owners, who already have enough to worry about just keeping the business operating, are going to be far more likely to hire an independent contractor who has a contractor’s insurance policy. To contract for the federal government and some state and local governments, contractor insurance is mandatory.

Contractor insurance policies are generally issued to cover the contractor, the person or company they are providing services to and any person, such as a homeowner, who is directly impacted by the work of a contractor. The policy will cover accidental property or equipment damage as well as protection from medical and legal costs brought on by a third party.

There are two areas that contractor insurance will not provide coverage for. The first is deliberate acts of negligence and the second is acts that occur due to a continued pattern of poor workmanship. However, the insurer would need to prove that such a pattern existed before denying a claim.

The average claim against a contractor often is not made until many years after the event, as faulty construction is often not evident until the finished product has been in use for some time. That is why it is important to understand how long the contractor’s insurance policy will be in place. A contractor’s insurance policy can even provide protection after the contractor has retired.

By purchasing a contractor’s insurance policy, contractors are relieved of the stress and anxiety over accidental damage to property or personal injury to others and can just concentrate on providing the best contracting services possible.

New Maryland traffic ticket process begins January 1, 2011. On January 1, 2011, a new law goes into effect, and drivers who get a payable traffic ticket in Maryland will no longer be given an automatic trial date to appear in court.

Here’s how the new Maryland traffic ticket process works: Drivers have three choices when they get a payable traffic ticket, and they must comply within 30 days or risk having their driver’s license suspended by the Motor Vehicle Administration.

The three choices:

1. Pay the traffic ticket fine.
2. Ask for a waiver hearing instead of a trial. Waiver hearings are for drivers who don’t dispute the ticket, but want to have a judge hear an explanation before being sentenced.
3. Ask for a court date for a trial.

Misclassifying employees as independent contractors to cut costs, including on WC insurance, is prohibited with the passage of SB 909 of 2009, also known as the Maryland Workplace Fraud Act of 2009. Passed by the state legislature in April of 2009 and signed by Gov. O’Malley that May, the Act stipulates that for the purposes of enforcement, a presumption that work performed by an individual paid by an employer creates an employer-employee relationship.

The language establishes investigation procedures for the Commissioner of Labor and Industry, as well as provides for civil penalties in the event of both an intentional (“knowingly misclassify”) and unintentional (“improperly misclassify”) infraction. The law took effect on Oct. 1, 2009 and is specific to the construction and landscaping industries. The passage of this bill in Maryland mirrors a national trend of implementing similar legislation throughout the country. Contact us if you want to know more about the Maryland Workplace Fraud Act of 2009 410-465-4300
